WEEE Compliance

As the impact of electrical and electronic products of every conceivable type has spread into virtually every area of our lives, so too has their impact on the environment. This is particularly the case when products are no longer wanted or needed: when dumped or sent to landfill, they can leak toxins and pollutants into the soil, watercourses and the atmosphere.

Over the past few years, a series of new laws and regulations have therefore been introduced, both in the UK and throughout Europe, in a bid to limit this impact and protect our environment. The most significant of these, implemented in the UK in July 2007, is the Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment Directive – known as the WEEE Directive.

Our wholly-owned Producer Compliance Scheme, A1 Compliance, offers a full WEEE, Battery & Packaging compliance service. A1 Compliance is registered with, and approved by, the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Put simply, by registering with A1 Compliance, you transfer your legal and financial obligations under the WEEE Directive to us, leaving you free to concentrate on your core business. It becomes our responsibility to ensure that the products you put on the market are appropriately managed at the end of their lives. That gives us the incentive to continually drive down our own costs, and the ability to pass lower costs to you.
